Founded in 2017 by Canadian artist, filmmaker, and production designer Joel Richardson, and gold medal winning Kenyan Olympian Matthew Birrir, the Metipso Portal is an experimental media lab and incubator based in Metipso, Kenya. The back-bone of the Metipso Portal is a state of the art broadcast tower and studio situated within a traditional Kalenjin mud-house in the rural village of Metipso, located in the heart of the Rift Valley in Central Kenya. The Metipso Portal aims to create cultural and creative connections between Kenyan and Canadian communities through audio-visual and telecommunications resources and video-art experiments. Over the course of 7 years, the Metipso Portal has delivered training programs, creative workshops, facilitated the production of a CBC Films produced feature film, and has resulted in the creation of Metipso TV, an on-going live performance project that produces inter-continental live-broadcast video-art presentations.
